About
Alexis Epstein is a criminal defense attorney with Barket Epstein Kearon Aldea & LoTurco, LLP, where her practice focuses on motion practice, mitigation, and trial advocacy. She regularly represents clients in serious and complex criminal matters, including vehicular offenses and vehicular homicide cases.
Prior to joining the firm, Alexis worked at the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office and the Legal Aid Society of New York City, two of the most respected public defender offices in the nation. Across Florida and New York State Criminal Courts, she conducted more than 100 hearings and depositions and tried multiple cases to verdict. Her trial experience from these roles includes a felony gun case and an assault case involving sexual allegations, for which she obtained not guilty verdicts.
Since joining Barket Epstein Kearon Aldea & LoTurco, LLP, Alexis has continued to litigate high-stakes criminal matters. Her work with the firm includes trying a felony course of sexual misconduct case, litigating numerous contested hearings, handling vehicular and vehicular homicide cases, and assisting as third chair in a high-profile federal civil rights trial, supporting senior trial counsel in complex federal litigation.
During her tenure at the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office and the Legal Aid Society, Alexis represented hundreds of clients charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses. Her caseload included domestic violence allegations, sex offenses, firearms charges, DWI, drug cases, and serious vehicular offenses, requiring extensive factual investigation and courtroom advocacy.
Alexis is highly skilled in written and oral advocacy and has filed and argued numerous motions resulting in dismissals and other favorable rulings. She is admitted to practice law in New York and Florida.
Most recently, Alexis secured a significant victory by winning a motion for retroactive Youthful Offender status for a client, eliminating the long-term consequences of a criminal conviction and underscoring her skill in strategic motion practice.
Alexis is an active leader within the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NYSACDL), where she serves on the Board of Directors and as Chair of the Emerging Defenders Committee. She also coaches a high school mock trial team and mentors developing trial advocates.
