Earlier this summer, Barket Epstein was one of the firm sponsors for an event put on by the New York City Bar's Civic Education Committee, of which Kristin Fontaine is a member.
It was an event celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and it brought hundreds of middle and high school students to the NYC Bar, where they heard from keynote speaker SDNY Chief Judge Laura Swain, watched an engaging presentation from Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History's Lisa M.F. Andersen, and participated in breakout groups to discuss the impact of the Declaration both 250 years ago and today.
As a member of the Civic Education Committee, Ms. Fontaine had the pleasure of leading one of the breakout groups, where we specifically discussed the grievances section of the Declaration. The students were highly engaged and had some impressive insights into how the Declaration is still relevant 250 years later.
