Steve Epstein Invited to Join Department of Justice Drug Recognition and Impairment Research Meeting

Epstein Will Serve as a Legal Defense Expert at an August 24th Roundtable Discussion Held at the Department of Transportation Conference Center in Washington, D.C.

Steven B. Epstein, a founding partner at Barket Epstein Kearon Aldea & LoTurco, LLP, a New York-based white collar, criminal defense, and civil litigation firm, will participate in an August 24th meeting to review drug recognition and impairment research hosted by the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Epstein is one of 15 experts invited to participate in a dynamic and informative roundtable discussion that will follow presentations by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) on their respective research portfolios. Mr. Epstein will serve as an authority representing legal defense interests and will be joined by field and lab practice experts to review drug recognition and impairment research at the day-long event.

The event will highlight critical insights of practice experts who handle possession, driving under the influence of drugs, and other drug-related cases and offenders. The purpose of the meeting is to disseminate information on current research to key stakeholders and to solicit their feedback on information and practice needs that may be applied to research portfolio development.

The DOJ sought Mr. Epstein’s participation due to his expertise in trial techniques, legal challenges to scientific evidence, legal updates, and other criminal and DWI defense-related issues. A nationally recognized lecturer and renowned author, he is widely recognized as one of the foremost DWI attorneys in the country, specializing in representing clients accused of DWI, vehicular homicides, and other criminal offenses. He also proudly serves as a faculty member of the distinguished National College for DUI Defense.
